Description
Rustenburg High School has a rich history to cultivate and conserve the indigenous flora diversity of South Africa for educational purposes, conservation, aesthetic enjoyment and inspiration. We have a collection of 24 indigenous tree species and 13 naturalized or exotic tree species in the area allocated for the Arboretum.
There are several natural indigenous and protected plant species as well as a number of trees planted by learners, just before leaving school in their final year. The fruit and other parts of many tree species are utilized by humans and animals, i.e.:
Harpephyllum caffrum – wildplum
Vachellia nilotica subsp. kraussiana
Vangueria infausta subsp. infausta
