Lubbock Memorial Arboretum
The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum is located inside Clapp Park in central Lubbock on the Texas South Plains. Established in 1961, the Lubbock Arboretum occupies 93 acres, of which approximately 17 acres is enclosed by fence. The Arboretum currently has 112 varieties of trees and shrubs. One of the main purposes of the Lubbock Arboretum is to educate the public by having a diverse collection of mature specimens the public can view and learn about alternatives to the commonly planted trees and shrubs available through local nurseries. The Arboretum features a grove of Desert Willow trees, a number of conifers ranging from Pinyon Pine to Deodar Cedar, numerous oaks including Escarpment Live Oak, and a Peppermint Peach, which is popular subject for photographers.
