Jefferson Memorial Park was founded in 1929 by Harry Campbell Neel a graduate of Yale University with a master’s degree in forestry.  Neel conceived the grounds as a park by establishing lawn gardens following the natural contours of the land and featuring plants and statuary that would enhance the beauty and the elegance of the natural setting.  Furthermore, he imported art work of historic or religious significance and planted trees and shrubs indigenous to the area.  Jefferson owns 320 acres with 86,000 burials on 170 developed acres.  We have a collection of more than 5000 trees and shrubs throughout the cemetery grounds.
