More than 4,500 Rare and Endangered Plants Facing Extinction in North America
BGCI is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the Marsh Awards for International Plant Conservation and Botanic Garden Education sponsored by the Marsh Christian Trust.
The Marsh Christian Trust was established in 1981 and runs a portfolio of awards which recognise the contribution of dedicated individuals working in different sectors – to improve the world we live in.
Plant experts met last month in Paris to assess international efforts to implement the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) and how effective it is proving in achieving its targets under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
The Fifth meeting of the Liaison Group on the GSPC took place as part of the EuroGard Congress, which brought together botanic garden representatives and plant conservation experts from across Europe and beyond.
A stakeholder workshop on implementing the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation was held in Uganda March 4th & 5th, 2015.
The workshop, which was organised in partnership with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) brought together representatives from a wide range of government and non-governmental organisations to discuss how to take forwards the 16 targets of the GSPC.

Two new awards for conserving the world’s imperilled flora have been awarded to Chinese botanists by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) on behalf of the Marsh Christian Trust.
The awards and their winners are:

Marsh Award for Education in Botanic Gardens: Wang Ximin
