Stakeholder workshop on the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation held in Uganda

10 March 2015

A stakeholder workshop on implementing the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation was held in Uganda from 4-5 March, 2015.

The workshop, which was organised in partnership with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) brought together representatives from a wide range of government and non-governmental organisations to discuss how to take forwards the 16 targets of the GSPC.

The GSPC is a programme of the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD) and in 2014, during the 12th Conference of the Parties to the CBD, the lack of progress towards some of the GSPC targets was noted with concern.  At this meeting, the CBD Executive Secretary was also requested to assist Parties to catalyse and promote cross-sectoral linkages among agricultural, health, food and environmental agencies with regard to plant conservation.
