Sustaining forests, sustaining people: IUFRO Congress

by Kate Langford

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), of which the World Agroforestry Centre is a member, will hold its 24th World Congress from 5 to 11 October 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

The Congress is one of the largest and most important events in the forest sector and takes place every 4 years. In 2014, around 3,000 participants from around the world are expected to come together to share knowledge from the many disciplines that focus on forests, natural resources, and people.

The theme for the Congress is 'Sustaining Forests, Sustaining People: The Role of Research', and this will be explored through pre-Congress field trips, over 150 technical sessions, poster sessions and a trade exhibition.

Speakers representing research, policy, and practice will present and discuss latest research results and innovations on various themes, including: Forests for People, Forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, Forests and Climate Change, Forest and Water Interactions, Forest Biomass and Bioenergy, Forests and Forest Products for a Greener Future, and Forest Health in a Changing World.
