Shanghai-Chenshan Botanical Garden becomes BGCI's latest Patron Member

BGCI is delighted to welcome the Chenshan Botanical Garden, Shanghai as its latest Patron Member. The Chenshan Botanical Garden has a strong scientific focus, integrating beautiful garden landscapes, with scientific research, education and leisure. The garden was co-constructed by Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Forestry Administration with the approval of Shanghai Municipal People's Government.  Located in Songjiang District, with an area of 207 hectares (2,070,000 m2), Chenshan Botanical Garden was officially started in March 2007; after more than 3 years of construction, it was open to the public as a trial on April 26, 2010; and with the completion of the Conservatory, the Garden was fully open on January 23, 2011.

The Cheshan Botanical Garden participates in a number of BGCI's projects, being a member of the International Plant Sentinel Network and contributing to the Global Seed Conservation Challenge.

As a Patron Member, Chenshan joins a number of other large botanic gardens that work closely with BGCI to help shape our program and determine future directions for the organization.
